Référentiel
|
The Référentiel Pédologique is a typology, a reference system for soils which identifies everything currently known about soils in the different climate zones of our planet.
Based on clear modern concepts, it offers a clear and well-defined language. It provides a way of organising our knowledge, but above all is an effective tool for transmitting the fullest information possible, and offers an opportunity for comparisons between different regions.
IT IS THEREFORE MORE AND BETTER
THAN A MERE SOIL CLASSIFICATION !
The Référentiel Pédologique is the fruit of long-term work with contributions from about a hundred specialists in a number of countries, coordinated by the Association Française pour l'Étude du Sol (AFES). It has just been translated into English (for sale with QUÆ Editions - $ XXX.00/£ XXX.00/€ XXX.00).
As far as the soils of arid and intertropical areas are concerned, many chapters have still to be written. Making the Référentiel Pédologique complete will need the assistance of skilled and motivated soil scientists who have worked in these climates. We are appealing to them for help in defining and naming the soils in these regions, using principles which are now well established. The Référentiel Pédologique is in fact an open system to which new items - Reference Horizons, References, Qualifiers, etc. - can always be added.
You will also find a list of the 102 References and Reference Horizons currently defined.
